Inland Empire Freeway Shootings
A shooter has been firing a BB or pellet gun at moving vehicles traveling on freeways 10, 15, 91 and 215. About 60 drivers have had their rear windows shot out, but luckily no one was hurt.
The targeted vehicles have mostly included sport utility vehicles (SUVs) traveling in the counties of Riverside and San Bernardino. At least six incidents took place Monday, June 7, 2010. Law enforcement has little to go on, since victims’ reports have greatly differed in regards to where shots came from. Hence, police have been unable to narrow down a specific suspect vehicle.
The incidents are becoming concerning for the next shot could very well hit a driver or passenger or cause a serious accident. California Highway Patrol urges drivers to pull over and call 911 if they are the target of such freeway violence. Drivers are also urged to make note of the place of incident as well as surrounding vehicles at the time to help police catch the culprit. See, Penal Code Section 245(a)(1).
