Hit and Run Penalties

Penal Code Section 20002

A Hit and Run Misdemeanor is punishable by a fine of $1000.00 or 6 months of jail or both. It is very unusual for anyone accused of this crime to do any jail if they are well represented by a lawyer. See the section dealing with Defenses to Hit and Run cases that avoid a conviction and jail time.
